溫度與壓力

內地核的溫度與壓力可以通過理論與試驗方式估計出鐵在內地核與外地核邊界壓力(約330 GPa)時的融化溫度。溫度估計為5,700 K(5,400 °C;9,800 °F)。[3] 內地核的壓強略高於內外地核邊界:估計在330至360吉帕斯卡(3,300,000至3,600,000標準大氣壓)。[4]鐵在這麼高的壓力下是固體,因為其熔點隨壓力戲劇性增高(參見克勞修斯-克拉佩龍方程)。[5]

Science雜誌上的一篇論文 [6]認為內地核邊界鐵的熔點是6230 ± 500 K。
