化合物
四硫化三铁是蓝黑色(有时是粉红色[来源请求])铁和硫的化合物,化学式为Fe3S4或FeS·Fe2S3,与四氧化三铁类似。自然界中存在于硫矿物胶黄铁矿,具有顺磁性。它是一种由趋磁细菌制造的生物矿。它是一种混合价态化合物,Fe2+与Fe3+的比例为1:2。

电磁性质
和与此相关的氧化物磁铁矿(Fe3O4)类似,四硫化三铁有亚铁磁性,其中占据八面体顶点与占据四面体顶点位置的铁离子自旋磁矩取向方向相反,结果产生了净磁化强度。这两个金属位置有高自旋量子数。胶黄铁矿有半金属的电子结构。[3][4]
