Ficus formosans ,also referred to as "Taiwan-Fig-tree", is a kind of small evergreen shrub with reddish brown branches,geographically distributed from Taiwan,Vietnam,to Southern China.It tends to be found at places near by stream with high humidity.In Taiwan,it is nicknamed as the nipple of goat,due to the shape of its fruit.And also,Ficus formosana is used as traditional dietary therapy in Chinese culture,its leaves,stem and roots would be harvested and stewed with chicken to make chicken soup.Legend has it that consuming the chicken soup cooked with Taiwan-Fig-tree,women can produce milk successfully after pregnancy.
Morphology
- Leaf : leaf alternate,long obovate shape with high variation
- stem : branching near ground, with some fur when it is young,its height can reach 2~3 meters
- flower : hypanthodium , flowers mixed with male and gall or female
