南鸟类
鳥類演化支
南鸟类(学名:Australaves)[1]是近年来才定义的鸟类演化支[2],由真隼形类(学名:Eufalconimorphae,包括:雀鸟、鹦鹉和隼),以及叫鹤目(学名:Cariamiformes,包括:叫鹤和已灭绝的骇鸟)组成[3]。它们是非洲禽类的姊妹群[3]。南鸟类与非洲禽类演化支的基群皆有现生的猛禽,显示两者的共祖可能皆是掠食性的鸟类[4]。然而部分研究学者,比如达伦·奈什,对这种说法抱持保留的态度:例如叫鹤目中已灭绝的鸮鹫即为植食性,而非掠食性的鸟类[5]。而基群鹦鹉和隼类的体型有些像乌鸦,可能是杂食性的[6]。
