蚁窝
“蚁窝”是指能够维持其完整生命周期的单一蚂蚁物种的族群。 蚁群是真社会、公共的和有效组织,并且与其他社会膜翅目中发现的蜂窝非常相似,尽管这些蚁窝的各个群体通过趋同演化。[1] 典型的群体由一只或多只产卵蚁后、众多不孕雌蚁(工蚁、兵蚁)以及季节性的许多有翅的有性雄蚁和雌蚁组成。[2] 为了建立新的蚁窝,蚂蚁会在一天中物种特征时间进行飞行。[3] 成群结队的有翅性动物(被称为有翼的)离开巢穴去寻找其他巢穴。[4] 此后不久,雄性和大多数雌性一起死亡,[5]一小部分雌性存活下来并建立新的巢穴.[6]
