When the salt playa will be dry in the sun's heat, at first, the surface is completely dry.

This(initial surface drying) causes the lower parts receive less heat from the sun.

During this time, the salt crystals grow in the bottom surface and the water(of salt crystals) gradually evaporates. Because the growth of salt crystals, the side surface grows and this causes the formation of polygons.
